INFORMATION

The museum, which has gone through a deep remodeling, is on the side of the chapterhouse and part of the ancient cloisters from the 14th century of the Cathedral of Murcia, conceived by the bishop Miguel de los Santos and opened to the public in 1956.

Its pieces are exposed by thematic groups, highlighting:
Ground floor: the bell "La Mora" (one of the most ancient bells of Spain), Sarcophagus of Muses (2nd century B.C.); altarpieces of Bernabé de Módena (14th century); a Gothic altarpiece of San Miguel; Coffin of a Roman sarcophagus used in 1552 to keep the dead body of Gil Rodríguez de Junterón, Chest of the Monument of Maundy Thursday; Monstrance of the Corpus of Antonio Pérez de Montalvo.

Upper floor: Betrothal of the Virgin and the Devotion of the Shepherds of Fernando de Llanos (1516); reliquary bust of Prisciliano, San Jerónimo Penitent of Salzillo.
A spectator can enjoy the discoveries that the remodelling has brought to light. Through a catwalk made of wood, metal and crystal we can see the archaeological remains located in the subsoil so as to show the structural evolution over the years. Ornamental stone covers, as well as some vaults and arches, kept unknown decorative elements which have been restored.

Bookings: can be made through the webpage of the museum, by phone or in the museum itself.
