TOWN HALL OF MORATALLA
Information

MORATALLA TOWN HALL.

With a square floor plan, the building is divided into three storeys and a basement. Both in terms of height and horizontal division, it follows a classic hierarchy in which the central street, which houses the building's main balcony, gives the impression of being ahead of the rest of the building.this pattern (the central street being in front) is repeated on all four facades of the building, with slight variations in the windows or wrought-iron balconies on the sides that do not have an entrance.

The hipped, tiled roof reveals a flat roof and, as a finishing touch, a small square tower with large windows that offers the same austere appearance as the rest of the building.

The simplicity of the form goes hand in hand with the sobriety of the exterior of this town hall. With a stone base, the ornamentation is limited to the stone cushioning of the corners and the window and balcony surrounds.

The building's main balcony is framed by the stone coat of arms of the town of Moratalla and the region of Murcia. These decorative elements mark the official nature of this architecture.

Inside, all the floors and the ground floor are used as offices and administrative premises. After the various renovation works, an attempt was made to conserve the typical features of the interiors in the style known as Popular Baroque. So, of the old structure, only the exterior and the circular staircase, in white marble and brandy wrought iron, have been preserved.

The distribution and layout of the interior surfaces are contemporary, designed for administrative use, information and offices for council members.

The simplicity of the form goes hand in hand with the sobriety of the exterior qualities of this town hall. With a stone base, the ornamentation is limited to the stone cushioning of the corners and the window and balcony surrounds.
