HOLY WEEK IN MURCIA
FIESTA DECLARADA DE INTERÉS TURÍSTICO INTERNACIONAL
FESTIVITIES AND TRADITIONS / HOLY WEEK
31 MAR 2023 - 09 ABR 2023
People taking part for the first time in Murcian processions, mainly in the most popular ones, will see unique images of our country. A celebration like the Holy Week does not get personality and difference but through time; in Murcia there are Brotherhoods from the late Middle Ages, when at the beginning of the 15th the ravages of the plague and famine reduced population which depended on random, which resorted to faith to find easy solutions. Over time, over the centuries, with history ups and downs, Brotherhoods multiplied until reaching the current glory and vitality that they proudly show.
Easter Week in Murcia is one of the best known in the whole region. Every year it receives thousands of tourists from all over the world. For years it has been recognised as being of International Tourist Interest. Easter Week in Murcia is a mixture of the artistic and the spiritual. There are ten intense days in which the brotherhoods bring out their best treasures: pasos, nazarenos, flowers, drums and bugles. The processions also include Easter cakes, sweets and even typical foodstuffs. The most characteristic procession is that of Good Friday morning, in which the entire work of Francisco Salzillo takes to the streets.
