Manifesta 8 has officially opened its doors to the public

Manifesta 8 has already opened its doors to the public. After two days devoted to the press and art professionals, the Murcia Region Contemporary Art European Biennale opened to the Murcia and Cartagena population and visitors on October 9th. The fourteen venues will be opened from Tuesday till Sunday from 10 in the morning till 8 in the afternoon during 100 days.
The entrance to the exhibitions is free of cost. The inaugurating day attended the Culture and Tourism Counselor, Pedro Alberto Cruz, the Murcia Government Delegate, Rafael Gonzalez Tovar, the Murcia Mayor, Miguel Angel Cámara, the Manifesta Foundation President, Hedwig Fijen, and the Manifesta 8 general coordinator, Esther Regueira.
The Manifesta 8 season has been opened. A hundred days devoted to contemporary art, in 14 venues, in two cities, Murcia and Cartagena. After two days devoted to the press and contemporary art professionals, the Murcia Region population and visitors will have the opportunity to meet first-hand the works done by 150 artists at historical buildings and Murcia¿s expositions galleries.
The Saturday¿s program began with the introduction by the authorities of Manifesta 8. Later on took place at midday the first guided visit/tour of New Life Residency, a Wooloo Project in collaboration with ONCE. New Life Residency is the first non-visual residence program for artists.
Through an international official announcement, Wooloo has chosen five artists who will live and work in an exposition space visually deformed. To help the artists in their daily life and in their work during the week, each one of them will collaborate with a sightless Murcian assistant. In collaboration with his/her assistant, the artist will use the one-week residence to create a guided visit through a non-visual space. The show can be seen at the Centro Parraga (space 5).
An hour later, at about 13:00 hours, at the Molinos del Rio Caballerizas a radiotheater piece was done by Valerie Tevere and Angel Nevarez. What we might have heard in the future is a radio serial based on science-fiction where some research into the history in the future is done. For the dramatization Tevere and Narvarez will be helped by specialist in different fields such as physiology, voice studies and so on.
The same space, Los Molinos del Rio Caballerizas, received Arts Assembly, a group formed by Marita Muukkonen and Ivor Stodolsky who are looking for the participation of the general public in their theatre creations to create The Critical Organ. Later on, at the Centro Parraga 0 space, the Alexandre Singh performance could be seen.
