WINDMILLS

In the municipality of San Javier, there are some windmills that were in use until the mid-20th century. They are of Mediterranean style, with a tower, a horizontal axis crossed by four pairs of rods, eight triangular sails, and rotating roof. Their origins date back to the 17th and 18th centuries.

Among them is the El Maestre Mill, located in the Hispania shopping center, which has been restored using traditional techniques. The interior staircase and the upper parquet floor were recovered, and it was equipped with the spire and the blades.

There are a total of six water mills, one flour mill, and two salt mills, distributed between San Javier, La Grajuela, and the northen area of La Manga del Mar Menor.
