Instituto Cervantes is a public institution created in Spain in 1991 in order to promote and teach the Spanish language and spread the Spanish culture as well as the Spanish American culture. It counts on centres in the five continents; these centres, together with the members of the Network of Associated Centres, promote and spread the teaching of Spanish in the world.
The Spanish language schools which make up the Network of Associated Centres of Instituto Cervantes are state and private language schools. Instituto Cervantes guarantees their quality if their courses and additional services pass its quality test.
Instituto Cervantes has an Accreditation System for Spanish as a Foreign Language Centres. It periodically carries out quality tests to check if the Accredited Centres in Spain comply with the established conditions of quality regarding legal requirements, academic activity and teaching quality, premises, equipment, administration, information and publicity.
There are two Centres Accredited by Instituto Cervantes in the Region of Murcia: Castelar - Centro de Estudios Hispánicos in San Pedro del Pinatar, accredited in 2007, and FUNCARELE in Cartagena, accredited in 2010. Both centres are in Costa Cálida and offer travel packages which include cultural, sports and leisure activities; the packages also include different types of accommodation such as 3 and 4 star hotels, apartments, halls of residence and host families.
