CHURCH NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LA ASUNCIÓN
Information

Before 1468 there was already a small building with a single nave and a wooden roof. It was later enlarged, building a larger enclosure with a roof resting on three plaster arches, the flamboyant Gothic window over the sacristy dating from this period.

In view of the increase in population in the XVI century, the Council planned a monumental building with a basilica floor plan, vaulted over enormous Tuscan columns, but different masters modified the floor plan, giving it a certain air of a Latin cross, with a third of the choir area missing, as the Royal Council of Orders ordered the work to be halted, and the unfinished area can be seen on the exterior.

Of the initial project, it is the Main Chapel where the Arco de Casetones, the work of the architect Francesco Florentino, stands out. The tower was built between 1930 and 1932, as the old free-standing tower was ruined at the end of the 19th century.

After the Civil War, successive restoration works were carried out. The work on the wall at the back of the Presbytery, made in a panel superimposed on the previous one and which tries to imitate the old High Altarpiece, is particularly noteworthy.
