FRANCISCAN CONVENT OF SAN SEBASTIÁN.
Information

Franciscan Convent of San Sebastián.

Former chapel of San Sebastián built in the last third of the 15th century. In the 16th century, the little that remained was demolished and another of greater proportions was built, and the Council ceded it to the Franciscans for their installation (29th March 1574).

The original appearance was slightly modified in the 18th century, occupying all of what is now the Library building and the Plaza de Abastos and subsequent buildings up to approximately the new street. In 1833 it suffered a major fire.

The façade is late Murcian Baroque with a certain colonial influence; it has geometric and vegetal motifs in red, black and grey jasper; niches with the images of San Sebastián and San Francisco.

The tower has four descending bodies. Nowadays, only what used to be the foot of the old temple, the tower and the choir loft, which has been fitted out by the Town Hall as an exhibition hall, are preserved.
