Mar Menor celebrates its Holy Week with marine-savour processions in the coastal district of Lo Pagán and in San Pedro del Pinatar.
Before 1951, it was an event of spontaneous participation of people. In the morning liturgical uses of the time used to take place and in the afternoon people carried on their shoulders images of the Passion, that according to their devotions, gathered around their preferred throne. Since this year Brotherhoods started to set up. Pioneer one was that of San Juan Evangelista (St. John the Evangelist), formed by a youth group. At the same time, another group constituted the Santo Sepulcro brotherhood (Holy Sepulchre). Later others, like the Virgin of los Dolores (Pains) and Jesus of Nazareth, also constituted.
Currently, many people from San Pedro del Pinatar take part in these processions keeping the tradition of these popular festivities alive.
